Hundreds in Portland Rally to Resist Trump at Earth2Trump Roadshow

16-city Tour Opposing Trump Attacks on Environment, Civil Rights Stops Tonight in Los Angeles, Friday in Reno

PORTLAND, Ore.— Hundreds of people in Portland Tuesday night rallied against Donald Trump's attacks on the environment and civil rights during the latest stop of the cross-country Earth2Trump roadshow of resistance. The event followed equally packed launch events in Seattle and Oakland on Jan. 2.

The two-route,16-stop national tour features free shows with live music, national and local speakers and a chance for participants to write personalized Earth2Trump messages that will be delivered to Washington, D.C., on inauguration day Jan. 20. The Center for Biological Diversity is organizing the shows in coordination with allied groups around the country.

“What's at stake is everything we hold dear. We're here because Donald Trump poses an unprecedented risk to our environment, civil rights and democracy,” said Stephanie Feldstein, population and sustainability director at the Center. “Most Americans don't support Trump — and we're fighting back against his dangerous agenda by organizing and working together.”

The show in Portland included local rapper Mic Crenshaw, and two singer/songwriters traveling with the tour, Dana Lyons and Makana. Attendees also signed a pledge of resistance and added their personal pledges and pleas into large hand-painted globes bound for D.C. Representatives for local groups — including 350 PDX, Oregon Wild, PDX Trans Pride and Columbia Riverkeepers — also spoke and tabled at the event.

“We want to build a radically different world. Social and climate issues are connected and we need to recognize that,” Anais Tuepker of 350 PDX said at the event, later closing with this rousing plea: “Let's be joyfully noncompliant together.”
