St. Augustine Rally Set for Saturday to Stop Keystone XL, Say No to Climate Change

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.— Protesters will rally on Saturday in St. Augustine to voice their opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline and other extreme fossil fuel development.

WHAT: Local activists, staff and members of the Center for Biological Diversity and the Environmental Youth Council will gather on Crescent Beach in St. Augustine to send a loud message to President Obama that Florida does not support the Keystone pipeline or any other projects that worsen the climate crisis.

WHEN: Noon, Saturday, Sept. 21.

WHERE: Crescent Beach in St. Augustine, one block south of A1A and State Road 206.

VISUALS: There will be a 350-foot banner that reads “No Keystone XL” along the beach and a plane will fly overhead to take photos. The banner will be unfurled at 12:30 p.m. and the crowd will gather behind it at 12:45 for the plane to fly overhead and take photos. The rally will then move to Genungs Fish Camp at 291 Cubbedge Road in St. Augustine where there will be speakers, music and refreshments.

TOPICS: Keystone XL pipeline, climate change and sea-level rise in Florida.

“We’re leading the fight to stop the Keystone XL pipeline and to curb climate change,” said Jaclyn Lopez a Florida based attorney at the Center. “President Obama needs to know the people of Florida do not support this pipeline and will not tolerate further delay on climate change.”
